Interactive Model of the National Museum of Qatar

A new challenge arose at IA Manufacturing when we were asked to create an interactive model for the National Museum of Qatar, where the biodiversity of the Qatari desert could be represented for a child audience.
Therefore, our client's desire was to create an installation where visitors could interact with the animals that inhabit the desert. For this reason, they asked us to enable visitors to track the animals by following their footprints in the sand.
What initially seemed like a simple project grew and became filled with aesthetic and mechanical details that we had to fulfill.
From the outset of the project, our priority was to design an environmentally friendly facility that met a vandal-resistant quality standard. And at the same time, to be attractive and educational for the whole family.
One model, different technologies
Our team of engineers carried out the necessary impact studies and after several prototypes, we got to work.
First, we manufactured a push-button system capable of withstanding 5 kg of pressure. In addition, each piece had to be equipped with another highly sensitive system designed to activate the interactive element.
Following that, we determined that the manufacture of this interactive model for Qatar would be carried out on a 60mm machined MDF board, which was subsequently sculpted to form the desert dunes.
Later, for the interactive part of our model, we made a box for the entire route to be illuminated with the footprints of the different animals.
The final step in this phase was to work on the entire assembly so that it was perfectly integrated.
On the other hand, for the animals we chose 3D printing technology in stainless steel. Thus, camels, small rodents, reptiles, and birds were manufactured to scale using this additive technology.
Finally, our final art team painted and treated each element to achieve the desired aesthetic appearance.
The final step in the creation of this Interactive Model was its international shipment and installation at the National Museum of Qatar. Our installation team traveled with the model, ensuring its safe transport and installation, and also enjoyed a few days of sightseeing in the Emirate.
We are very pleased with the outcome of this project and how we carried it out, as it required teamwork and coordination from all departments at IA Manufacturing.
